A PART OF ART
Hardly anything stimulates the imagination as much as the theme of the artist and their models. Over the course of 20 years, the internationally renowned photographer Dieter Blum, photographed 70 artists with their nude models. The special thing about it is that Dieter Blum surprised the artists every time by bringing them a model with which the artists then had to deal with. The best photographs were here summarized in “A Part of Art”. “A masterpiece of the photographer,” as Prof. Klaus Honnef wrote in his foreword.
In “Action”, for example, world-famous artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Alex Katz, Sandro Chia, Nam June Paik, Robert Rauschenberg, Alfred Hrdlicka, Günther Uecker, Jörg Immendorf, Markus Lüpertz, Elvira Bach, Ben Willikens, Tomi Ungerer or K.R.H. Sonderborg, are depicted.
But also, the world-famous dancer Ismael Ivo, who simulated Robert Mapplethorpe and Francis Bacon for Dieter Blum, can be found in impressive poses. Background information: Ismael Ivo was a close friend of both Francis Bacon and Robert Mapplethorpe. Both are thus duly represented with a picture in the book. Ismael Ivo about Dieter Blum: “With no doubt what remained very strong for me has been the experience with two major protagonists of this art. They are: Robert Mappelthorpe and Dieter Blum… Blum mastered the time of movement in photography and immortalized the image in a genius capture.”
The award-winning photographer lives and works in Düsseldorf and Esslingen. His pictures were published in all major magazines. The extensive oeuvre has been honoured in numerous national and international exhibitions.
